![]() Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth film in the franchise and a reboot of the series, directed by George Miller and starring Tom Hardy as Max. The Mad Max movies have become a cultural phenomenon and have inspired numerous other works of art, including video games, comic books, and more. The most recent film in the franchise, “Mad Max: Fury Road” (2015), received widespread critical acclaim and was praised for its feminist themes and powerful female characters. ![]() Other notable facts about the Mad Max series include its influence on the post-apocalyptic genre and the groundbreaking special effects and stunts utilized in the films. The series is also popular for its unique, imaginative world-building and the impactful social commentary it offers about issues such as resource scarcity, environmental degradation, and the corrupting influence of power. People love the Mad Max movies for their intense action sequences, dynamic cinematography, and powerful performances from its lead actors, particularly Mel Gibson in the original trilogy and Tom Hardy in the more recent films. Set in a desolate, dystopian future where society has crumbled, the series follows the journey of Max Rockatansky, a former cop turned loner, as he navigates the harsh, unforgiving wasteland and confronts the dangerous gangs and individuals who rule it. "She's just a hardcore warrior with a purpose and it's really the engagement of the two that is the central conflict that helps the story unfold," Miller said. The Mad Max movie series is a post-apocalyptic action film franchise that explores themes of survival, justice, and revenge. Joining Hardy is actress Charlize Theron, who plays Imperator Furiosa, a character that Miller described as an "equal" to Max, and who leads a slew of female actresses in the film franchise that was previously male-dominated. Max, who becomes a lone, hardened warrior in his journey, will find himself once again caught up in other people's journeys and problems in "Fury Road." "In many ways, the world is getting a lot better, but there's still lots of stuff out there that could go wrong." "I'm beginning to realize that's the nature of the world and humankind, and we're always fighting these kind of struggles, these tensions," Miller said. Three decades later, Miller said, the same issues remain pertinent. Much of the first three films centered on the battle for energy resources and fuel, a conversation that was just beginning to gain traction at the time. Not much is known about the plot, but fans at San Diego's annual Comic Con were treated to exclusive footage on Saturday, which showed leading characters including Max and Nux, played by Nicholas Hoult, in action and explosion-filled clips. "They are (both) the guys who are very lovable, and at the same time they've got their dark side, and that contrast is at the core of their charisma." ![]() ![]() "It's not about an old Mad Max, it's about the same Mad Max," he said.īritish actor Tom Hardy picks up the mantle of Max, and Miller said he embodies many of the qualities he first felt with Gibson. "Everyone in the story is either a villain or a good guy this is a very dangerous world and everyone you encounter could be out to kill you to simply to take what you have. Time Warner Inc-owned Warner Bros' "Fury Road," due in theaters next year, is set 45 years in a post-apocalyptic future, and Miller said the whole film is a "105-minute chase scene through the wasteland." To the author of these lines it appears likely that the Pagan consists of four movements with a slow movement and a Scherzo (as identified in the score). The Pagan combines the multi-movemental form of the traditional symphony within its own single-movemental form as did the Hebridean Symphony before it – though authors are still not quite sure when which movement begins and ends and how many movements actually exist. With Pagan Symphony, which Bantock dedicated to his son Raymond, he picks up the themes of mythical ancient Greece the composer especially loved the time of the ancient world and the Orient – besides the aforementioned works Bantock’s Symphonic poem The Witch of Atlas 1902), the orchestral songs Sappho (1905), the overture Oedipus Coloneus (1911), the symphony The Cyprian Goddess (1938-39) and the Overture to a Greek Comedy (1944) are worth noting. The ballet’s first part (whose eerie quality reminds Norman Demuth of Strauss) was published under the title Pan in Arcady in 1915 and premiered in Glasgow on 9th December 1919. The Pagan Symphony (1923-28) was partially developed from the unfinished second part of the choral ballet with vocal soli The Great God Pan: Festival of Pan. Furthermore he was a close and trusted friend to Havergal Brian, Josef Holbrook and others Clarence Raybould, Julius Harrison, Claude Powell, Cecil Gray and Christopher Edmunds were among his students. Bantock was said to be a good conductor and constantly supported the works of other artists (among them were Boughton, V. Apart from these exceptional talents Herbert Antcliffe points to Bantock’s importance as a patron of his colleagues and thus says that the title of an ✾nglish Liszt« is very fitting. Retrospectively Bantock’s style has frequently been described as eclectic, though many of his works display a sort of creativity which may not be attributed to harmony but much more to the formal structure and the instrumentation which gained sustainable meaning but is hardly recognized thus far. ![]() As for several other composers the first world war meant a break in popularity for Bantock. Especially these were largely popular amongst the British musical landscape at the beginning of the century. From 1897 to 1901 he was the musical director of the Tower in New Brighton and later accepted the call to be head of the School of Music of the Birmingham Midland institute (now Birmingham Conservatoire) and became Elgar’s successor as professor of music at Birmingham University in 1908 (he was knighted in 1930).Īs a student of Frederick Corder at the London Royal Academy of Music, Wagner and more so Liszt were of great influence on Bantock which can particularly be seen in his tone poems (The Witch of Atlas, 1902, Fifine at The Fair, 1901), and in his programmatic symphonies. In 1893 he became the leading editor of the Quarterly Musical Review. He was a lecturer at both conservatoires early on. ![]() His later teachers at the Royal Academy of Music were Henry Lazarus, Reginald Steggall, Frederick Corder and Alexander Campbell Mackenzie. Particularly noteworthy are his oratorios (amongst others Omar Khayyám, 1906, The Song of Songs, 1922 and Christus, 1901) as well as his unaccompanied choral symphonies Atlanta in Calydon (1911) and The Vanity of Vanities (1913), which are some of the first more complex counterpoint choral pieces in over 200 years in Great Britain.īantock began his studies at the London Trinity College of Music under the guidance of Gordon Saunders. Bantock mainly composed vocal and choral music. Granville Bantock should be known as one of Britain’s most important composers of the first third of the 20th century, even though he is virtually unknown nowadays and hasn’t been acknowledged with a complete monograph in the 70 years since his death. That being said, I think you definitely need to add another color, either black or white, to give you some way to help control the field early on while you are setting up. Since there isn't any removal in this deck any aggro strategy knows they can just keep pushing against you and you can't really push back, and if you're taking turn 4 or 5 to drop Kozilek's Channeler or From Beyond when you haven't dealt with the creatures already on board, you may find that you can't play those spells because they don't allow you to protect yourself enough from the threats your opponent controls. You also have to decide what you are going to do in the early turns. It's frustrating when we're given all these big spells and no really good way to bridge the gap to cast them before we're blown out by aggro strategies. The problem is that all the so-called ramp is coming out turn 4 or later. Tl:dr Decide whether you want to aggro swarm or ramp to big guys, then focus your deck more to that end. Oblivion Sower and Conduit of Ruin also seem intriguing. Tide Drifter, Brood Monitor, Kozilek's Channeler and Incubator Drone seem more helpful to getting your big guys out before you're dead. They don't make great blockers, they don't ramp your mana very much and there isn't a critical mass to kill people with. In the ramp deck, I don't see how Mist Intruder, Ruination Guide, Adverse Conditions and Skyspawner really help your game plan. That deck couldn't have the big guys, because then there wouldn't be enough little guys and you'd rather have more aggression in place of the things that help cast the big guys, some of the land and the big guys. I could imagine a deck with a ton of little eldrazi that won by flooding the board before the opponent set up and winning with cards like Swarm Surge. I don't think the deck is aggressive enough to win without the big guys and those aggressive cards might better serve the ramp deck. I see a relatively small number of aggressive cards in the frame of a ramp deck. Everything is relative to your expectations, but I see problems for your deck in competition. With the reformatting I can more easily look at the deck. From there, you can cut and paste if you like it. You can quote this (as if you were responding) to see how it's done. The Patsy Hankins Trophy was inaugurated in 2016 with the Asia-Pacific triumphant on the two occasions it’s been held. So, it’s got a very rich tradition, even though it was only established in 1998.” “When I first got involved in that in 1998, Justin Rose was part of the European team and Geoff Ogilvy was part of the Asia-Pacific team. We were reflecting on some of the players that have played in the past – we’ve had Shane Lowry and Jon Rahm on one side and Hideki Matsuyama and Cam Smith on the other. We were meant to have these championships in 2020,” said Hopkins. “They were last held five years ago in Qatar. The Ryder Cup-style events, which pit the leading players from the Asia-Pacific against their counterparts from the European Golf Association, will be held at Spain’s La Manga Club in the first week of August. We’re creating playing opportunities for them,” said Hopkins, who has served on the APGC Board since late 2017.Īlso to look forward to is the resumption of the Bonallack Trophy and Patsy Hankins Trophy. It’s for those in the region that are aged between 25 and 54 and are perhaps past their golfing prime, but not at senior level. “This year we’re inaugurating a Mid-Amateur Championship for both men and women. Perth-based Hopkins is bullish about the APGC’s expanded calendar of events for 2023 which includes the launch of the Mid-Amateur championships, scheduled for Malaysia’s Glenmarie Golf & Country Club in early June. “This is a very big year for our championships because it’s a catch-up year really after three long years of Covid delays,” said John Hopkins, Chairman of the APGC’s Championship Committee. A busy year of championships lies ahead as the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) makes up for lost time. ![]()
